JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Children’s Home Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the residential home. They will lead a team of staff, undertake direct work with children when necessary, and ensure that all aspects of the residential premises are managed effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) – Essential
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • A track record of achieving “Good” or “Outstanding” Ofsted outcomes
  • Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills
  • Thorough understanding of safeguarding, child development, and care planning

Responsibilities

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:

To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the residential home, to lead a team of staff, and to ensure the care, welfare, and positive outcomes for every child placed in the home. To ensure the home meets all regulatory and legislative requirements in line with Ofsted standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take overall responsibility for the operation of the home and for compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards 2015.
  • Lead the staff team in delivering high-quality, child-centred care.
  • Promote safeguarding and ensure that all young people’s needs are met holistically.

KEY TASKS:

In Support of Key Responsibility 1:

  • Be responsible for ensuring the home operates in accordance with the home’s Statement of Purpose and the relevant legislative framework.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement in line with the home’s objectives and outcomes for children.
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead and respond to all safeguarding concerns promptly and in line with policy.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current legislation and guidance in relation to looked-after children and children’s residential homes.

In Support of Key Responsibility 2:

  • Provide supervision, support, and leadership to all staff, including Deputies, Seniors, and Support Workers.
  • Ensure all staff understand and adhere to policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, including local authorities, schools, health providers, and therapeutic teams.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of care practices, including maintaining accurate records and participating in audits.

In Support of Key Responsibility 3:

  • Oversee staff recruitment, induction, and training in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure all staff have access to and complete mandatory training, supervisions, and annual appraisals.
  • Prepare rotas to reflect the needs of the home and ensure adequate staffing levels at all times.
  • Maintain responsibility for quality assurance and lead preparation for Ofsted inspections.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend relevant meetings, training, and development opportunities.
  • Promote equality, inclusion, and anti-discriminatory practice in all aspects of the role.
  • Ensure the home provides a nurturing, supportive, and stimulating environment for young people.
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ensure the home is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and decoration.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of the children at all times.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably required to support the effective running of the home.
