Position Overview The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) provides individualized nutrition counseling to MOWRI participants using a structured 6-part nutrition curriculum to guide education, lessons, and participant-centered conversations along with individualized goal setting for behavior change. This role focuses on improving nutrition status and supporting chronic disease management of participants. Nutrition counseling services are offered to eligible participants and, when applicable, are billed to the participant’s insurance to support reimbursement for services provided. Counseling is delivered in a respectful, accessible, and practical manner, taking into account participants’ health conditions, functional limitations, cultural preferences, and available resources. This is a full-time, in-office position with benefits, working Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Requirements Key Responsibilities Deliver one-on-one nutrition counseling grounded in using a 6-part curriculum that focuses on nutrition principles and healthy eating habits. Verify participant eligibility, obtain authorization for services, and support insurance billing and reimbursement process in accordance with program and payer requirements. Conduct nutrition assessments to identify nutrition risk, diet-related health needs, and opportunities for food-based interventions. Individualize curriculum content to support chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, renal disease), malnutrition prevention, and overall wellness. Develop and implement personalized nutrition plans based on clients' S.M.A.R.T. health goals and needs. Monitor progress, adjust care plans, and support clients in achieving their goals. Collaborate with interdisciplinary care team members as appropriate. Document care accurately and timely in electronic health records (EHR). Perform additional duties within scope of practice as needed. Provide motivational support and guidance to help clients achieve dietary goals. Stay updated on the latest nutritional science and dietary guidelines. Educate participants on how Meals on Wheels meals can be used therapeutically to support health goals. Reinforce the role of food in managing health conditions, supporting strength, energy, and quality of life. Document counseling sessions, curriculum modules completed, and participant outcomes in accordance with program and funding requirements. Maintain detailed client records and track their progress. Collaborate with Meals on Wheels staff and community partners to support coordinated, food-based care. Provide written or group-based nutrition education as appropriate. Qualifications Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Licensed in Rhode Island to practice as a Registered Dietitian. 1–3 years of work experience as an RDN, of which at least 6 months includes outpatient education experience. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to educate and motivate clients to make positive lifestyle changes. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Comfortable using telehealth platforms. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Compassionate and empathetic approach to client care. Experience using electronic medical records for case notes. Bilingual/Multilingual preferred. Work Environment Work is performed in a building. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and the environment is sometimes fast paced. Protocol for safety and security is a priority. Occasional work after normal business hours. Must be able to drive to other locations such as external meetings, within the state.
