POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Early Childhood Educator Specialist under the direction of the Supervisor/ Manager undertakes all duties pertaining to the care and education of the child enrolled in the Early Childhood Laboratory Centre. The incumbent also models skills and provides feedback to the Early Childhood Education students to support their theoretical training. He/she is required to document the student’s performance and behaviour which assists the faculty in the evaluation of the student. The incumbent develops and maintains a professional relationship with families demonstrating genuine appreciation and respect for diverse family systems and practices

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum two (2) year ECE diploma or equivalent
  • Current Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • A minimum of 3 years age group related experience in a licensed child care setting obtained after completion of ECE diploma
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Up to date medical including TB test and immunizations
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check issued within six months of date of hire
  • Knowledge and Experience in implementing in the following:
    o The Assessment of Quality Improvement.
    o Ontario Early Years Act
    o Public Health Regulations for Child Care

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills in a child care setting working with infants or toddlers and pre-school children from a diverse background
  • Proven flexibility, cooperation and willingness to share ideas and information to enhance team building with staff.
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
Responsibilities
  • To plan developmental appropriate curriculum for children between birth to 4 years old that is congruent with the department Program Statement and How Does Learning Happen
  • Providing behaviour guidance and ongoing supervision of playroom, playground, group, individual and routine activities
  • Facilitating daily learning opportunities to enhance language, motor skills, independence and problem-solving through music, science, art, dramatic play, etc.
  • Setting up both indoor and outdoor activities for children according to their cues through observation and an Emergent Curriculum
  • Establishing positive interactions and rapport while guiding children in all areas of development in accordance with the program statement and How Does Learning Happen.
  • Ensuring overall health and safety of children enrolled in the program by maintaining a sanitary and safe environment as well as identifying children who are unwell.
  • Adapting and maintaining an environment which addresses the diverse individual and group needs of children and their families.
  • Support and communicate with parents, faculty and community.
  • Supporting students in the ECE program by providing ongoing observations; daily informal verbal feedback and formal weekly verbal feedback to students
