JOB DESCRIPTION – REGISTERED MANAGER (CHILDREN’S RESIDENTIAL HOME)

Location: Leicester, Leicestershire
Salary: Competitive, dependent on qualifications and experience
Hours: Full-time, 37–40 hours per week
Reports to: Responsible Individual / Senior Management
Regulatory Body: Ofsted

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent (or willingness to complete within 18 months).
  • Proven experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager in a children’s residential setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Ofsted inspection framework.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in safeguarding and risk management.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively.
Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Registered Manager will be responsible for the leadership, management, and day-to-day running of a children’s residential home, ensuring the highest standards of care, safety, and outcomes for children and young people. The role requires full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, and all relevant statutory guidance.
The postholder will create a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where children can thrive, recover from trauma, and achieve their potential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hold and maintain Ofsted registration as the Registered Manager for the home.
  • Provide clear, visible, and accountable leadership to the staff team.
  • Embed a child-centred culture that promotes safety, stability, and positive outcomes.
  • Ensure the home meets or exceeds “Good” or “Outstanding” Ofsted ratings.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational plans in line with legislation and best practice.
