ABOUT THE ROLE

The Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practice is a midwifery continuity of care (MCoC) model which provides women with a primary midwife during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal period. Women who are eligible will identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or are pregnant and their baby will identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Midwives will be required to work a 7 day, rotating on-call roster to provide intrapartum care when required. Each midwife will provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care for approximately 30 women per year. Key features of this model include support for the emotional, cultural, and spiritual wellbeing of the woman, her family, and the community; continuity of care; individualised antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care; multidisciplinary collaboration; education and counselling.
