ABOUT THE ROLE
Formed in 1882, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It remains one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.
The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Birth Centre provides holistic midwifery care for women and their families during the pregnancy, labour and birth and postnatal period. Midwives work in a Team midwifery model caring for 450 low – moderate risk pregnant women each year. Midwives work across the full scope of midwifery practice providing antenatal care from the booking in visit at 14 weeks, intrapartum care in the Birth Centre of Delivery Unit, through to postnatal care for the mother and baby up to 14 days post birth.
Midwives in this team are required to provide postnatal care in the home, a current and valid drivers license is preferable. A commitment to working with women to achieve an intervention free birth is essential, midwives applying should be able to demonstrate their commitment to these principles at interview.
