The Adult Post Anesthetic Care Unit is an integral component of the Operative Services Portfolio at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH). The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. A Level 1 Trauma Center, the UAH provides surgical access to various specialties including, Neurosurgery, OHNS, Urology, General Surgery, Ortho Trauma, Plastics, Burns, Spine, iMRI, and Solid Organ Transplant Services. The Post Anesthetic Care Unit provides comprehensive care in a critical and highly specialized area to post-surgical patients as they recover from general and/or regional anesthesia. The PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is adept in the assessment and management of the patient’s immediate post-surgical life sustaining needs, and ensures patients safely progress along the post anesthetic continuum. The successful incumbent will gain valuable nursing experience working alongside skilled staff, in a fast paced and dynamic environment, supporting AHS’s commitment to providing safe, high quality, family centered care.
Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
