The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. The hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized adult services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, renal, critical care, burns, transplant and trauma inpatient programs as well as, a vast number of ambulatory clinics. Our promise is “Extraordinary Care, Exceptional Caring.” This position contributes to the care of patients in the medicine program which consists of 14, 18+ bed units and includes many specialized services. The program utilizes a collaborative care model (COACT) including team nursing for patient care and Connect Care for the patient’s electronic medical record. The program has a team of CNEs and CNS to support new hire orientation, training in specialized areas and ongoing professional development and initiatives. We strive to utilize evidence-based practice and quality improvement principles to improve patient and family experiences and outcomes. Unit 5F3 is a fast-paced, 21-bed inpatient unit dedicated to caring for older adults with diverse medical needs. Our patients include individuals with delirium, dementia, falls, congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, and other chronic conditions. Additionally, we provide compassionate end-of-life care for those in need of palliative support. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
