Department: ICU Daily Work Times: 7:00pm - 7:30am Shift: Nights Scheduled Bi-Weekly Hours: 72 Position Summary: Collaborates with physician to provide a plan of care that will return the patient to optimal health. Provides bedside nursing care and carries out medical orders. Delegates to and oversees Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Associate, OB Care Associate, Surgical Service Assistant, Nursing Clerk and Psychiatric Tech functions. Responsible for evaluating effectiveness of care plan. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Assumes responsibility for a leadership role encompassing: Integrating evidence-based knowledge into practice. Delegation and coordination of tasks and assignments of nursing care. Facilitates/participates in patient conferences. Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences. Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community. Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel. Precepts/mentors new employees and students. Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments Effectively manages the critical care of the patient with hemodynamic monitoring Accurately and effectively administers high risk medications Effectively monitors and manages the care of the patient with hemodynamic instability Effectively monitors and manages the care of the patient with respiratory instability including mechanical ventilation Actively participates in unit quality measures Incorporates Evidence Based Practice in patient care Ability to promote compassion and a therapeutic environment Required: · Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan. · BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross · Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Critical Care course within one year of hire/transfer · Must satisfactorily complete first available Basic Dysrhythmia course Preferred: · Six-month experience in acute care setting or equivalent · Critical Care Registered Nurse
