Additional voluntary benefits such as STD, LTD, etc. Job Summary The Cath Lab RN provides direct nursing care to patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic cardiac procedures. Responsibilities include examining patients, preparing them before procedures and monitoring their status with imaging equipment to ensure there is adequate blood flow throughout their body. The RN will also look for blockages that may indicate a need for further intervention. Essential Functions Providing assessment, monitoring, and intervention for cardiac procedures, such as coronary stents, Swan Ganz/right heart catheterization, balloon valvuloplasty, angioplasty and pericardiocentesis Administering oral and intravenous medication to patients Operating intra-aortic balloons, physiological recorders, and printers for monitoring electrocardiogram data Managing patients under sedation to watch for adverse reactions Educating patients and their families regarding surgical site care, lifestyle, medications and other postoperative information Managing paperwork, including patient consent forms, charting, lab results and procedure documentation Collaborating with other medical staff as needed Behavorial Standards Treats everyone as their customer; utilizes scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service; Expresses recognition and shows appreciation to others; fully utilizes AIDET principles; responds quickly to handle requests, complaints, and questions; displays a positive attitude. Communication/Knowledge Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program. Requirements Experience 1-year prior Cath Lab, Special Procedures, ICU/CCU, or ER nursing experience. Education Associate degree in nursing; Bachelor's degree preferred Licensure/Certifications Current Nursing License issued and/or recognized by Board of Nurse Examiners for the TX BLS ACLS
