CONTEXT

The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is an award-winning Health Access Centre that provides holistic health services to First Nation, Inuit, and Métis people living in Ottawa. We are a fast-paced, client-oriented organization that models the Indigenous values of balance, respect, and community interdependence. We are proud to be accredited through the Canadian Centre for Accreditation, a third-party review based on accepted organizational practices that promote ongoing quality improvement and responsive, effective community services.
Our clinic team provides a holistic model of care for Indigenous peoples. We are seeking a positive and experienced registered nurse to support day-to-day guidance for our diabetes education team and culturally relevant health promotion activities for Indigenous community members.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing or health sciences;
  • Registered Nurse designation in good standing with the CNO;
  • Certification from the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board; Or a commitment to obtain one;
  • Experience with programming, effective communication with community members;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous peoples’ history and challenges Indigenous people face in contemporary society;
  • Demonstrated superior problem-solving ability with sound judgment;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to persuasively communicate complex health messages;
  • Knowledge of available resources in the city and province. Or the ability to research, gain knowledge, and build a partnership with resources inside and outside of Ottawa.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy;
  • Ability to work a flexible work week that may include non-traditional hours, evenings, and weekends.
