Job Description: Responsible for the care of the mental health patient in the ED in partnership with the ED nurse Will be required to float between the inpatient mental health units based on volume and need of both departments competency managing the acute mental health patient in an ER setting preferred Demonstrated ability to prioritize care and make informed autonomous decisions; Demonstrated ability to work with complex and difficult patient and family situations; Physical ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of aggressive behaviour; Demonstrated ability to perform charge nurse duties preferred; Proficient in the use of computers, with the ability to type notes and utilize the electronic health record; Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; Excellent organization, time management, professionalism, and ability to work as part of team; Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record required; Passion for change, quality improvement, and professional development Provide co-ordination of patient admissions, transfers, and repatriations utilizing THP’s Health Information Management system (eg. EPIC), standard operating procedures (SOP), protocols and situational awareness of each unit’s status within the hospital Facilitating capacity and flow, to provide support to the ED, Mental Health inpatient units, across site transfers and preparing packages for transport to other facilities. Qualifications: Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario; Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire; Minimum of 2-3 years recent experience in an acute inpatient mental health unit required Mental health community experience an asset Advanced skill in the assessment and management of acute mental health and concurrent disorders conditions, including mental status examination, suicide risk assessment, management of aggressive behaviour, bio-psychosocial assessment, physical health assessment, treatment and transitional care; Additional experience in addictions and/or medical/surgical or emergency nursing would be considered an asset; CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing preferred Current certification in non-violent crisis intervention Training & Experience with Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) an asset Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable health care legislations To pursue this career opportunity, please visit our website: www.trilliumhealthpartners.ca Internal Candidates who believe they possess the necessary qualifications and experience for this position and who have been in their current position for at least six (6) months are encouraged to apply.
