Description
Working as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the role of the registered nurse includes, but is not limited to, participation in clinic days and the diagnostic assessments, and investigations of children, youth and their families. Within the context of a family centred care philosophy, the nurse delivers a range of evidence based consultations, treatments and guidance to individuals and to their families. The nurse will provide services, support and their clinical expertise in pediatric disease processes for children and youth with complex mental health needs, including but not limited to nutrition deficits, sleep disorders, physical health challenges, physical development, sexuality, a range of behavioural and/or neurodevelopmental and varied medical issues, and medication monitoring. Case management responsibilities may be required for those children and youth with the most complex needs. The role will require collaboration with the developmental paediatricians, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, speech therapists and other allied health professionals, as well as community service providers, to develop and implement a plan of intervention, which addresses the physical, behavioural and mental health and wellness. This role may also include the development of educational materials and provision of education and training for parents and for caregivers. Minimal travel is required within the Hamilton/Niagara Region. 1. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse 2. Minimum of 5 years recent nursing experience in a tertiary pediatric centre 3. Minimum of 3 years of recent and relevant experience in working with children and youth with mental, behavioural and developmental health needs 4. Minimum of 3 years recent and relevant experience in a developmental paediatric or mental health setting, with expertise in providing assessment and treatment of children, youth and their families, working under medical directives, participating in clinics and working with an inter-professional team 5. Sound knowledge of pediatric illnesses, symptoms and related interventions 6. Demonstrated clinical expertise in pediatric psychosocial assessments, pediatric growth and development, critical thinking, and problem solving 7. Demonstrated knowledge of psychopharmacology 8. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the role of community liaison and access to community services and resources for the children and their families 9. Demonstrated skills in health teaching, education, including the development of educational materials, training and skill development for children/youth and their families 10. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal team work and communication skills 11. Demonstrated leadership, independent action, initiative, organization and prioritization 12. Must have a valid Ontario driver's license, access to own vehicle and be able to travel within Hamilton/Niagara Region of Ontario 13. Vulnerable sector clearance require, using 14. Bilingual fluency in French, or another language would be an asset
