POSITION SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF SERVICE:
The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides direct nursing services to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities – with a focus on health promotion, restoration, and maintenance, prevention of illness and disability and palliative care. The RN/RPN is responsible for providing total patient care but may delegate some aspects of care to other health care team members in a staff mix model – e.g. Resident Assistants. In addition to providing direct nursing services, the RN/RPN functions as a key member of the professional health care team and is responsible to provide day-to-day instruction and feedback to the Resident Assistants assigned to their care team.
The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse reports directly to the Resident Care Coordinator of the living unit(s) to which they are assigned. The RN/RPN is accountable for their own practice and is also accountable to the Coordinator of Health Services to demonstrate clinical competency and effectiveness in keeping with the provisions and requirements of the Registered Nurses Act, Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act, College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Nursing Services within Health & Transition Services.
