An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated B5 staff nurse to join our Interventional radiology (IR) team.
As a Registered Nurse working within the IR department you will be responsible for delivering safe and effective high quality nursing care to patients who are undergoing IR procedures. You will be expected to competently perform the necessary technical, invasive and physical aspects of care for this defined patient group. IR or experience in a similar environment such as theatres is desirable however not essential as we are able to offer a supportive learning environment where you will receive a comprehensive induction programme supported by experienced members of the team.
This is a rotational post across IR departments within Glasgow, our base being QEUH. The shift pattern is 4/7 with a contractual requirement to participate in the Glasgow wide OOH on call service. Candidates should familiarise themselves with the job description, person specification and the summary below It is essential that B5 SN working in IR will:

Demonstrate excellent communication skills Develop individualised care plans and maintain accurate documentation.

  • Be a team player, who is adaptable and has the desire to go that extra mile for our patients.
  • Provide pre, intra and post procedure care and supporting interventional work within IR and other modalities such as CT and ultrasound.
  • Following IR protocol for conscious sedation, nurses are required to administer IV sedation to patients undergoing IR procedures and to perform intra and post procedural care and observations on the sedated patient.
  • Work alongside the interventional radiologists as “scrub nurse” during invasive radiological procedures.
  • Be flexible – particularly covering a late finish and providing an out of hours on-call nursing service, as required by the department to meet the needs of providing patient care.
  • Have an understanding of local safety rules, protective clothing and equipment with regards to working in an area using radiation (including wearing a lead apron for long periods of time).
  • Take on the co-ordinator’s role by being responsible, with SCN/CN support, for the daily running of the IR list – co-ordinating, allocating and making any necessary changes to patient lists in consultation with the interventional radiologists
  • Ensure infection prevention policies are adhered to and ensure a safe environment is maintained
  • Be responsible for stock management
  • Be an effective role model.

As part of NHSGGCs pre employment checking for all appointed candidates, it is essential that you are an Adult Registered Nurse with current NMC registration, evidence of NMC registration is essential upon application.
