POSITION SUMMARY

Position Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is responsible for providing direct patient care in accordance with the mission, vision, goals, objectives and policies of the hospital and the Patient Services Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

  • Current general class registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) required.
  • Completion of Coronary Care I & II (or equivalent), proficiency of arrhythmia analysis within previous two (2) years to ACLS standards required. Must be able to demonstrate arrhythmia interpretation during orientation period.
  • Defibrillation and External pacemaker to departmental standards required.
  • Successful completion of exam to administer life saving medication required within orientation period.
  • Current Patient Assessment Course within three (3) years required (exempt if newly graduated within the past. three years). Timeline extended if currently using assessment skills in a Critical Care environment.
  • Demonstrates competency of initiation, administration and management of IV therapy including IV med administration.
  • Commitment to develop knowledge, skill and ability to care for patients with Ventilators, Bi pap, Special line care, peritoneal dialysis & CVP required. Previous experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years medical/surgical experience required
  • BSCN preferred
  • Preference given to nurses with ACLS, Certified Coronary Care Courses, and Critical Care Certificate from a college or hospital based program in keeping with CCSO Standards.
  • Canadian Critical Care Certification an asset.
  • Must be able to work in fast-paced changing environment in intensivist lead model and multidisciplinary care team.
  • Supports the development and coaching of the Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT).
  • Proficient work performance and excellent attendance record required to promote team cohesiveness and collaboration.
  • The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to professional development as well as to the Mission and Vision of the Hospital with participation in unit or organizational committees or teams. Demonstrates proficiency in written and verbal communications skills in relation to working with patients across the care continuum.
