Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Nurse
Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team. As a Labor and Delivery Nurse, you will provide specialized care to expectant mothers throughout their labor and delivery process. Your primary goal will be to ensure the health and safety of both the mother and the newborn.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Perform initial assessments on expectant mothers, including checking vital signs and reviewing medical history.
2. Monitor fetal heart rate and uterine contractions during labor.
3. Administer medications and pain relief techniques as necessary.
4. Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement individualized birth plans.
5. Assist with inducing labor or performing cesarean sections when needed.
6. Provide emotional support and guidance to expectant mothers and their families throughout the labor and delivery process.
7. Educate patients on newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
8. Document all procedures accurately and maintain detailed patient records.
9. Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, such as excessive bleeding or fetal distress.
10. Stay updated on current trends, research, and best practices in labor and delivery nursing.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of employment.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
3. Minimum of two years of experience in labor and delivery nursing.
4. CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to work independently and make quick decisions in high-stress situations.
7. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
8. Knowledge of fetal monitoring techniques and maternal-fetal assessment.
9. Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
10. Ability to multitask and prioritize patient needs effectively.
