Department: Post Anes Care Unit (Home Base)/ Day Surgery
Program: Surgical Program
Days, Evenings, Weekends; 8 and 12 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)

Wage Schedule: $39.070 - $56 per hour

Qualifications

  • Required: Current Ontario Registration with the College of Nurses
  • Required: Current BCLS; ACLS preferred.
  • Required: Post Anesthetic Care Certificate
  • Required: At least 2 years recent PACU experience
  • Required: Venipuncture and IV Certification
  • Critical Care or ED certificate an asset (with PACU certificate)
  • Ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills to patient care;
  • Ability to handle a stressful environment in a positive manner;
  • Able to function independently and as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control best practice;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in patient centered care approach and principles
  • Ability to adapt to a multi-focused, fast-changing and stressful environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past 2 years;

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of OR, PACU and Day Surgery, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation, and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered care environment. Using an advanced level of nursing practice and excellent observation skills, the RN will successfully care for patients undergoing surgery in the Pre-Operative, Phase 1 and Phase 2 areas. They will demonstrate flexibility to work throughout the Peri Anaesthesia environment in order to promote patient flow; monitor post-operative patient progress while recovering from local, regional, or general anesthesia and timely discharge.
