OVERVIEW
Registered Nurses possess a defined body of advanced knowledge, clinical skills, procedural skills and professional attitudes, which are directed to effective patient and family-centered care. In serving as the leader of the Coordinated Care Team, Registered Nurses have a pivotal role in care planning, coordination and delivery and in ensuring high level functioning of the health care team.
RNs apply both their clinical knowledge as well as their leadership skills to collect and interpret information, make appropriate nursing clinical decisions, and carry out therapeutic nursing interventions. Their care is characterized by up-to-date, ethical, and resource-efficient clinical practice as well as with effective communication in partnership with patients and families and clinical teams.
The Registered Nurse in the Medicine/Surgery A2 unit must have a wide range of nursing skills related to general medical-surgical nursing. The RN must have demonstrated leadership skills, excellent critical thinking and the ability to adapt to unpredictable situations. In order to serve the wide organizational needs the RN must be willing to cross-train to specialty areas as required. This position will primarily support Medicine and Surgery Units, staff maybe assigned to work within other areas of the organization that are within the Medicine and Surgery clinical setting domain.
EDUCATION
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated understanding of accountability based practice.
Demonstrated ability to provide care for patients with respiratory disease and interventions, i.e., tracheostomy, suctioning, chest auscultation, arterial blood gas interpretation.- Previous experience with the following patient populations -geriatric, medical, oncology, neurology, diabetic would be an asset.
Knowledge of chest tube care and care of thoracic surgery patients would be an asset.
