Description:

MANDATORY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) and NMBA.
  • First-aid, mental health first aid and MAPA accreditation.
  • Access to own reliable car and willing to travel when necessary.
  • Valid working with children, NDIS and DCSI checks.
  • Valid working rights in Australia.
  • Current and valid driver’s license.
  • High level of written and verbal communication with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy with common Microsoft platforms and patient management systems.
  • Excellent triage skills.
  • Proficiency in recording patient care details.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to work autonomously within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven clinical experience in patient assessment, management and recent acute impatient and or community experience.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of SA and national legislation governing area of practice (Mental Health Act).
  • Experience in the disability sector and knowledge in regards to NDIS legislations, requirements and standards.
  • Experience in managing a diverse group of staff members.
  • Experience in delivering group education.
  • Extensive experience in the provision of mental health care including Medicare processing, completion of mental health assessments, crisis management, general health checks, psycho-education, psychopharmacological and therapeutic interventions based on current evidence-based approaches.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in planning and evaluating group-based activities for students, staff and/or the wider community.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for patients according to accepted nursing practice and standards
  • Works in consultation with other health professionals and members of health teams, and co-ordinating the care of patients
  • Provides interventions, treatments and therapies such as medications, and monitors responses to treatment and care plans
  • Promotes health and assists in preventing ill health by participating in health education and other health promotion activities
  • Answers questions and providing information to patients and families about treatment and care
  • Supervises and co-ordinates the work of enrolled nurses and other health care workers
  • Implementing plans and processes to ensure effective intake and ongoing service delivery.
  • Liaising with all stakeholders.
  • Conducting onsite training, welfare checks, and audits.
  • Monitoring house activities to ensure safety, comfort, and excellence in care.
  • Ensuring disaster planning is up to date and developing strategies for continuity of care in the event of service interruptions.
  • Formulating and regularly reviewing health-related care plans.
  • Daily people management of Team Leaders and Support workers of Senami Counselling including supporting performance issues, performance appraisals and staff morale/engagement.
  • Acting in the best interest of the company and our clients, including confidentiality, privacy, individual choice and decision making.
  • Provide consistent high-quality care to our clients.
  • Conduct on-going mental health and risk assessments, welfare checks, training sessions for staff.
  • Ensure that all care plans, policies and care procedures are always up to date and complies with NDIS and Senami standards, duty of care, freedom of information, Privacy Act, Sexual Harassment and Occupation Health and Safety and all other relevant standards and procedures as per the NDIS Commission requirements.
  • Identify, conduct and receive internal and external referrals and manage the process of treating an individual under the Mental health Act SA 2009.
  • Liaise with service staff, police and all other relevant stakeholders for any safety, risk or behavior concerns through crisis management and critical incident response.
  • Work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and other external services.
  • Be responsive to the needs of our clients and staff.
  • Attend mandatory education and training sessions when applicable.
  • Mentor, train, support and supervise team leaders and support workers in an effective manner at all times.
  • Provide psychoeducation about the correlation of physical and mental health and promote healthy lifestyle through the development of therapeutic activities and community programs for our clients. The activities and community programs must aim to reduce stigma, promote mental health awareness, prevention, early intervention and strengthen the clients’ independence and social inclusion.
  • Employ a holistic approach in treatment and always incorporate the needs of the individual that encompasses their mental, psychosocial, environmental, cultural, spiritual, physical health and well-being in best practice.
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies and brief interventions when responding and managing crisis situations.
  • Always abide by the code of professional conduct established by professional associations, National Mental health, NDIS and Australian clinical practice guidelines.
  • Willing to perform other duties as directed, within approved scope of practice.

GENERIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Comply with all Senami and NDIS policies and procedures at all times.
  • Support and participate in policy and procedure development and implementation when required with the organization.
  • Identify and report areas of risk or concern within the scope of your position and follow the correct procedures.
  • Ensure that your requirements and qualifications are always up to date and always inform Senami of any changes in a timely manner (first aid, registration, MAPA, driver’s license etc.)
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information obtained during your employment. You must also continue to maintain confidentiality after your employment ceases with Senami.
  • Coordinate clinical care during on-call hours as an on-call officer and resolve on-call matters in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide detailed on-call reports and logbook to relevant supervisors and management.
  • Participate in the performance review process and all other meetings for team leaders and support workers when necessary.
