Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Per-Diem Registered Nurse for an opening at a hospital in Marrero, LA. In this role, you will deliver high-quality, compassionate care in a dynamic setting, managing a diverse patient population and collaborating with a skilled healthcare team. Why Join Us? Key Responsibilities: Performing standardized (e.g., NIHSS, Glasgow Coma Scale) and focused neuro-checks every 1 to 4 hours to detect subtle changes in mental status, motor strength, pupil response, and level of consciousness. Continuously monitoring patients on telemetry, managing arterial lines, and observing for cardiac instability or blood pressure fluctuations common in stroke or brain injury patients. Caring for and monitoring patients with external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, or subdural drains, including accurate measurement of drainage and monitoring for infection. Performing bedside swallowing screens before allowing oral intake, positioning the patient to protect the airway, and implementing precautions to prevent aspiration pneumonia in patients with cranial nerve deficits. Educating patients and families on recognizing stroke warning signs, managing new medications (antiplatelets/anticoagulants), and coordinating rehabilitation services to prevent readmission. Licensure: Active, unencumbered RN license from the state of LA and current BLS Certification. Experience: Minimum of 1 year of RN work experience.
