EDUCATION:

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated competence in performing CPR procedures.
  • Experience in teamwork, decision-making and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated a teaching aptitude
  • Proficient in clinical leadership.

  • Program and Scope: Our hospice/palliative care sites include the following: PHC has a 12-bed in-patient Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital (10D) and also operates a freestanding hospice, St. John, located on the UBC campus.
  • St. Paul’s Hospital (10D)*Acute: Palliative care focuses more on acute pain and symptom management needs. Many patients may go home after their time in palliative care or transfer to hospice or long-term care.
  • May’s Place (6 beds) *Sub-Acute: Downtown Eastside, where people have problems with mental health and substance abuse.
  • St. John’s Hospice (14 beds) *Sub-Acute: Hospice care is intended for those who are going through their last days of life and are receiving care for end of life.

The first community hospice on Vancouver’s West Side and is situated in a beautiful location on the University of British Columbia’s campus.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients’ physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families.
  • Make referrals to resources as needed.
  • Support fellow healthcare professionals.
