POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Radiation Oncology Nurse to join our outpatient oncology team. The Radiation Oncology Nurse will provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing radiation therapy, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being throughout the treatment process. The ideal candidate will have excellent clinical skills, a patient-centred approach, and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. They are required to establish continuity of care and navigate the patient’s trajectory throughout the radiation treatment phase in conjunction with the Primary Physician and the multidisciplinary team

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Licensure

  • Current registered nurse (RN) licence in Ontario (required)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (required)
  • Oncology Nursing Society Radiation Course certification or DeSouza Radiation Course certification (highly recommended)
  • DeSouza Foundations in Oncology (preferred)
  • CNA certification (CON(C)) (preferred)

Experience

  • Experience in oncology is required
  • Previous radiation oncology experience is preferred
  • Previous experience using CoStars telephone triage preferred
  • Skills and CompetenciesCurrent BCLS
  • Demonstrate ability to work both autonomously and in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Certification in I.V. and CVAD management an asset
  • Strong knowledge of oncology principles, radiation therapy, and symptom management
  • Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilitiesSatisfactory attendance and performance required

  • Provide emotional support and counselling to patients and their families during all stages of radiation treatment
  • Develop and deliver educational materials tailored to patients’ needs
  • Offer resources and referrals to community support services as needed
Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Patient care
  • Working in collaboration with the radiation oncologist, participate in daily clinics providing consultation to new patients and follow up appointments.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ physical and psychosocial needs before, during, and after radiation therapy.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on treatment plans, side effect management and self-care strategies.
  • Monitor and document patients’ responses to radiation therapy, including side effects and complications
  1. Collaboration and Communicatio n
  • Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, and other healthcare professionals (systemic and surgical teams; clinical trials; etc), to ensure seamless patient care
  • Act as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team, ensuring effective communication
  1. Education and Support
  • Provide emotional support and counselling to patients and their families during all stages of radiation treatment
  • Develop and deliver educational materials tailored to patients’ needs
  • Offer resources and referrals to community support services as needed.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
