Description ***Working with Family Practice & Internal Medicine Physicians four days per week*** DEPARTMENT: Nursing REPORTS TO: Provider/Director of Nursing SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse is responsible for managing patient telephone calls and assisting the physician with patient care in the office setting. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Handles all patients’ clinical telephone calls. Provides counseling of the patient’s family regarding illness/injury and any other patient care related questions. Advises patients according to established clinical protocols when physician input is not required. Monitors laboratory, x-ray, ECG results and other pertinent medical data under physician guidance. Completes referrals. Completes STAT prior authorizations. Monitors/manages health maintenance topics on designated patient panel. Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms. Notes patients’ chief complaint/purpose for visit and sets up exam room accordingly. Interviews patients, measures vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height; and records the information on the patients’ charts. Gives injections and other medications under physician supervision, when applicable. Instructs patients regarding preparation for tests and procedures. Records laboratory, x-ray, ECG results and other pertinent medical data in patients’ charts. Handles the incoming and outgoing mail, making sure the doctors sees all necessary information. Calls in prescriptions and refills to pharmacies. Schedules special appointments (i.e. follow-up, referrals, surgeries, x-ray, and lab). Assesses and schedules appointments for patients who must be seen same day. Consults other departments regarding patient care matters. Speaks to callers, patients, physicians, other staff and anyone they interact with during their assigned work hours in a polite, courteous, understandable manner that projects Primary Care Associates interest in providing high quality customer service. Completes assigned duties in a timely, accurate manner. Demonstrates a team spirit through cooperative, supportive professional work relationships. Complies with company policies and procedures. Maintains regular scheduled hours. Maintains confidentiality of patient information. Performs other related duties as assigned by management. Requirements SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate of a NLN accredited Registered Nursing program required. Certificates, licenses and registrations required: Must have valid, unrestricted RN license in the State of Wisconsin. Must maintain a current BLS for healthcare certification. Computer skills required: Office Suite; Payroll Systems; EPIC Other skills required: Previous experience in a medical office setting preferred. Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, physiology and anatomy. Pleasant and effective communication skills. Ability to work well with all customers of Primary Care Associates. Ability to prioritize and work efficiently. Ability to function as a part of a team with a cooperative attitude. Able to work under pressure and in a fast pace environment. Strong organizational skills. Must have flexibility in work schedule. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, talk or hear. Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity. Frequently exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually loud; very loud The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds independently. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
