Announcement Open Until Filled Grade 17: Hourly Rate is DOQ Dept/Div: Multiple/N/A---FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt General Definition of Work Performs difficult advanced human support work performing medical evaluations of inmates housed in the Coweta County jail or prison, assisting physicians, collecting medical data, preparing and maintaining files and records, preparing and dispensing medications, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under limited supervision as assigned. Close supervision is provided to any assigned staff.    Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   Essential Functions Operates facility clinic, assigns duties and supervises any other healthcare workers, including LPNs, Paramedics, and other auxiliary healthcare workers as needed. Screens and assesses inmates’ health; performs intake exams for new arrivals; prepares medical histories; responds to questions and medical requests from inmates. Administers medication to inmates; performs medication refills; discusses inmate's condition with physician; accurately charts medical records and prepares inmate transfer records. Organizes treatments; schedules appointments and follow-ups for dental care and with attending physicians; coordinates movement and transportation of inmates with corrections facility staff. Administers annual tuberculosis screening, flu and vaccination clinics for inmates and staff; maintains appropriate medical files. Orders supplies for facility medical department; maintains budget for medical services; monitors invoicing for services provided by physicians and dentists; submits invoices for payment, and prepares medical reimbursement reports for services provided for state inmates and within State guidelines. Serves as a member of the SART team for PREA requirements. May be required to be on call as necessary or required. Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of the principles, standards, practices and techniques of professional nursing; thorough knowledge of the dangers inherent in and the precautions to be taken in the use of narcotics and other medications; thorough knowledge of the treatment, diagnostic, immunization and related medical services for medically ill patients; thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies pertaining to nursing services of the detention facility; ability to accurately maintain patient medical records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inmates, physicians, associates and others contacted in the course of work   Education and Experience Bachelor's degree with coursework in nursing, or related field and considerable experience in emergency care and professional nursing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.   Physical Requirements This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).   Special Requirements Possession of current licensing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia.
