Cold Lake is located on Alberta’s seventh largest lake and is home to Canada’s 4-Wing Airforce Base, one of Canada’s busiest fighter bases. Cold Lake boasts a bustling oil and gas industry as well as an active tourism industry. Generalist Public Health Nurse based in or out of the Cold Lake Public Health office, is Alberta Health Services frontline representative in delivering public health services in the diverse communities of the North Zone. The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders. The incumbent will: effectively use the nursing process to deliver quality care; provide safe, ethical and patient/family centered health care; independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, referrals, and evaluation as appropriate. Also provides services to individuals, families, groups, and communities with attention to diversity and the social determinants of health. Duties include but are not limited to the generalist role of public health nursing. Provision of universal Public Health services includes immunization for all age groups, influenza program delivery, and health promotion initiatives. Communicable Disease Control – outbreak management, notifiable disease follow-up. Maternal/Infant Health including postpartum support, lactation education, prenatal education, and high-risk assessment of mother, babies, and families in the home environment. Sexual and Reproductive Health – will be required to provide STI test and treat, contraception support, pregnancy testing and education in schools and communities. Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
