Braemar Retirement Centre (MacGowan Nursing Home) is an accredited 69 bed licensed Long Term Care facility located in Wingham, Ontario. Braemar is a proud RNAO Best Practice Spotlight organization and is working towards becoming a DementiAbility certified home who aims to provide a collaborative, person-centered environment for staff and residents alike.
We are excited to announce we currently have openings for professional, enthusiastic, compassionate Registered Nurses (RN) to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Care, the RN is responsible for shift oversight and the provision of direct resident care as required in accordance with all organizational and legislative policies and procedures and professional standards. In collaboration with the resident care team, the RN ensures adherence to quality resident-focused programs and actively participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Provides nursing care consistent with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards, Long-Term Care sector legislation, and the organizational policies and practices.
- Participates in the formulation of individualized Resident Care Plans
- Completes all appropriate / assigned assessments within the required time frames.
- Assist in maintaining an environment which meets the physical, cultural, spiritual, psycho-social, and restorative needs of the resident.
- Supervises care provided by the RPN, Health Care Aide/Personal Support Worker.
- Oversight of the building after hours and on weekends, communicating to outside support services / leadership as required to ensure optimal operations when required
- Observes and reports significant changes in the resident’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social conditions in a manner that demonstrates respect and maintains privacy and confidentiality for each resident.
- Maintains accurate, timely and complete clinical records on all residents according to established documentation policies and procedures and ensures the confidentiality of these records.
- Administration of medication as required following all medication management policies
- Ensures appropriate, efficient, and effective use of supplies.
- Maintains effective communication and positive, professional interpersonal relationships with residents, colleagues, families, visitors, medical, allied staff members and internal/external stakeholders.
- Assists in training and supporting new staff through and beyond the orientation period
- Participates in all required education
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Care or delegate.
- Follows health and safety policies and expected practices.
Qualifications:
- Current registration in good standing as Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- A Nursing diploma/ Degree from a recognized college or university
- Current CPR certification
- Effective written and oral communication in English
- Fully inoculated against COVID-19 (at least 2 doses received)
- Proven ability to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to prioritize tasks and respond to multiple demands.
- Proven effective conflict resolution skills
- Experience in a Long-term Care Setting / knowledge of related legislation and regulations is preferred
- Knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights and promotion of same within daily practice.
- Additional training in any of the following areas would be considered an asset: Basic Foot Care Course, CAPSE, P.I.E.C.E.S., GPA, DementiAbility, Leadership education, Skin & wound education/experience, education in gerontology and/or dementia care
