This position is responsible for providing informatics expertise and resources. The senior level position is involved in a greater scope and larger span of responsibility, by serving as Clinical Informatics Support team representative and project lead for system level projects, initiatives, and implementations. As a resource, this position provides on-going informatics support for various teams and committees. This position supports the organization’s vision and direction for computer systems, process design, data management and related processes. The RN Clinical Informatics Coordinator Senior not only serves as an informal onsite leader, in the absence of the Director, as it relates to interactions with customer and facility leadership, but also liaison between the healthcare setting or specialty area clinical support staff and the Clinical Information System IT team to communicate customer needs and facilitate system modification to meet customer needs. Leads and mentors other RN Informatics Coordinators and IT team members.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Certification in Nursing Informatics preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical expertise to the informatics team, as well as expertise and guidance to the user community. Mentors junior members of the department. Serves as point person for work with IT Clinical Applications, and other Clinical Informatics teams, by assisting with provision of front-line application testing for system enhancements. Participates in post-implementation change evaluation, and develops and implements action plans and supports customers in maintaining changed work flow and technological processes.
  • Expert resource for other Clinical Informatics Coordinators for complex issue investigation, trouble-shooting, and resolution. Facilitates escalation to leadership or other teams for resolution. Provides advanced decision support. Develops, coordinates, facilitates, and plans on-going information system evaluation including: customer accuracy, data integrity, and system reliability to support decisions and coordinate outcomes. Supports customers in their downtime preparation and recovery, and coordinates efforts with IT as needed.
  • Collaborates with education team to develop and improve training materials related to changes and upgrades in the existing EMR (electronic medical record) and clinical application systems. Develops and implements communication and education plan in conjunction with clinical educators and management for current staff to assure changes to the EMR are implemented accordingly. May provide clinical application training.
  • Maintains on-going customer communication and support to assure customer competency. Obtains information on usage of the system and workflow concerns through established, regularly scheduled rounds in the healthcare setting. Collaborates with customers, account managers, physicians and clinicians to help define health care information issues and enhancement opportunities. Identifies methodologies for communicating, implementing, and utilizing informatics solutions and data structures in order to support health care access, delivery, and evaluation. Provides consultation and project support in conjunction with project leadership for the deployment of new IT clinical applications.
  • Maintains on-going customer communication and support to assure customer competency. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices, regulatory standards, and organizational direction. Utilizes this knowledge in supporting customers and process teams. Collaborates with nurse researchers as required to participate in research related to use of the EMR.
  • Participates in facility and system interdisciplinary process improvement activities to identify potential future uses of the information systems and potential improvements in the current use of the systems. Act as a liaison regarding optimal EMR functionality. Collaborates with or escalates to other teams as needed to facilitate issues resolution.
  • Develops and evaluates the effectiveness of communication methods and processes. Regularly updates supervisor regarding current status, issues and trends related to the use of clinical information systems. Immediately escalates critical issues to leadership. Maintains a line of communication to all customers of clinical information systems
