Job Summary Summary At Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, our nurses are at the heart of patient care. In this role, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing services in the Acute Care setting, ensuring that every patient receives safe, high-quality care. Guided by Federal, State, and local standards, as well as MVH policies and procedures, you’ll collaborate closely with the CEO, Director of Physician Services, CNE, and providers to deliver exceptional care to our community. Does this position involve direct patient care? Yes Essential Functions Patient Assessment & Planning Perform comprehensive physical, psychological, and social assessments. Apply knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and disease processes to guide decision-making. Document admission assessments, interventions, patient responses, and discharge summaries. Create and communicate individualized nursing care plans to ensure continuity of care. Implementation of Care Carry out nursing orders, clinical interventions, and technical procedures in accordance with hospital standards. Ensure patient safety through correct technique, appropriate precautions, and evidence-based practice. Function within the limits of the State Nurse Practice Act and MVH nursing policies. Education & Discharge Planning Assess and meet patient/family education needs. Provide clear instructions through Bedside Shift Reports, as well as verbal and written discharge teaching. Educate patients on medications, side effects, and post-discharge care. Leadership & Collaboration Report and address patient care or management concerns in partnership with supervisors. Assign patient care based on acuity, staff qualifications, and experience. Support and orient new staff, coordinate daily routines, and maintain readiness of emergency equipment. Acute Care Expertise Deliver safe, compassionate care to patients across the lifespan (pediatrics to geriatrics). Manage both medical and surgical patient populations. Provide care in short-term psychiatric settings. Demonstrate safe medication practices specific to acute care patients. Professional Growth & Competency Take ownership of professional development and continuing education. Complete annual competencies and mandatory training requirements.
