Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow Job Responsibilities: Performs patient assessments to collect basic data and follows written care plans, standards, and practice guidelines under supervision. Utilizes assessment data and patient preferences to identify patient care needs. Organizes, prioritizes, and delivers patient care using Inova's Nursing Professional Practice and Care Delivery Models (e.g., procedures, therapies, tests, patient education). Monitors patient progress toward expected outcomes and adjusts care plans accordingly. Provides compassionate, empathetic care while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. Justifies clinical decisions with educational knowledge, principles, and evidence-based practices. Works efficiently with the healthcare team to achieve maximum productivity and desired outcomes. Accurately documents all patient care activities in compliance with documentation standards and seeks help to improve documentation skills. Actively participates in multidisciplinary rounds and meetings as part of the healthcare team. Integrates novice nursing abilities with new knowledge to deliver safe, high-quality care. Seeks out healthcare team members for guidance and validation of clinical decisions. Openly accepts feedback, mentoring, and suggestions to improve care. Attends all learning sessions required for successful completion of the RN Fellowship. Completes assignments on time, including classroom work, computer-based modules, lab simulations, and readings. Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills and effectively use equipment for safe, high-quality patient care. May serve as a preceptor after completing orientation and competency requirements. Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow Minimum Qualifications: Work schedule: Full-time Rotating Shift: 3x12 hour shifts per week. Holidays are linked into groups, with staff assigned to one group each year. The groups will rotate annually. Additionally, staff are required to work 4 weekend shifts within each 6-week schedule. Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date. Experience: Required 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, for Critical Care units, 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship. Preferred: Two years of recent experience on an inpatient postpartum unit. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start | For Critical Care Units: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - Within 6 Months | For Pediatric Units: Pediatric Advanced Life Support- Within 6 Months | For Infusion Center Units: Obtain chemo card- within 3 months of hire Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) Recent inpatient Registered Nurse experience We are Inova, Northern Virginia’s leading nonprofit healthcare provider.
