Skills and Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure: Must have an active RN license in the state of practice.
• Experience in Surgical Care: Many OR RNs have prior experience in other nursing roles, such as in general medical-surgical settings, before moving into the OR.
• Advanced Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) .

Working Environment:

• OR RNs work in hospitals, surgical centers, and clinics, primarily in the operating room.
• Shifts often include nights, weekends, and holidays, as surgeries can be scheduled around the clock.
• The environment can be high-stress, requiring RNs to remain calm and focused during surgery.
• Exposure to bodily fluids, surgical instruments, and high-risk situations is common, so strict adherence to safety protocols is essential.
