POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Director of Care Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable to the Director of Care Services in accordance with Orchard View’s mission, operational policies and Provincial standards. The Registered Nurse oversees the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the needs of the residents to achieve optimal outcomes and provision of care that is resident specific. The Registered Nurse (Charge Nurse) is part of the management team of the nursing home, serving as charge nurse and overseeing and responsible for the operations of the facility in the absences of the Administrator (CEO) or Director of Care Services. The Registered Nurse, in collaboration with the Director of Care, ensures there is appropriate planning, communication, monitoring and evaluation of care processes. In the supervisory role the Registered Nurse is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Care Department including building strong teamwork, ensuring regular and clear communication and dealing with problems as they arise. Networking with all other departments is an integral part of ensuring the smooth operation of the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
· Currently registered in good standing as a Registered Nurse with New Brunswick Nurses Association (NBNA)
· Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills
· Must be willing to work in a multidisciplinary team but also independently
· Physically and mentally able to perform tasks and abide by all policies
· Willing and able to work all shifts of the rotation including weekends
· Willing to oversee and participate in orientation of all Care team personnel
· Maintain current CPR certification
· Must have a good attendance record
· Long term care experience preferred but not required
· Basic computer skills

· Perform resident assessments including planning interventions and facilitating implementation, coordination and evaluation of care interventions.
· Develop resident care plans and document care plans in the Momentum Care Plan system and make necessary changes to care plans when indicated.
· Maintain competency in the RAI-LTCF assessment tool and complete assessments regularly as assigned.
· Counsel, educate and support residents and families in their care and disease trajectories.
· Report significant changes in residents’ condition to appropriate clinicians.
· Provide continuity of care. Provide safe, ethical, resident-centered care.
· Participate and at times lead Initial and Annual Care Conferences and other multidisciplinary team meetings.
· Supervise all care given by the care team and participate in the administration of direct care to residents. Develop a therapeutic relationship with the residents and families.
· Administer medications and treatments ordered by the Physician. Assist Physician on weekly rounds and process orders in accordance with all policy and relevant legislation.
· Assist the Pharmacy team with drug supply and administration through timely and accurate ordering and reordering of medications including stock medications, return of unused medications and other process according to policy and relevant legislation.
· Conduct narcotics count and investigate and address discrepancies immediately.
· Assume responsibility for the admission and/or discharge of a resident.
· Monitor and ensure diets are being followed.
· Provide compassionate and holistic palliative care to residents and their families.
· Oversee and as appropriate, participate in the orientation of all Care Team personnel including LPNs and Ras.
· Ensure staff and resident incident reports are completed as required and participate in follow-up as indicated.
· Adhere to all Health and Safety policies including the Back in Form program and accept responsibility for reporting any safety concerns to the Safety Officer or to Senior Management. Complete infection control reporting for staff. Complete shift report at the end of each shift.
· Perform all other related nursing duties as may be required during the day-to-day operations of the Home and as indicated on the Charge Nurse checklist.
· Take “on call” in the absence of the Director of Care as assigned.
· Perform any other supervisory tasks as requested by the Director of Care.
· Participate in education and development programs to ensure competence in maintaining the requirements of a Registered Nurse.
