Job Details Job Location: Amberwell Atchison - Atchison, KS 66002 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: 4 Year Degree Travel Percentage: None Job Shift: 8 Hour Day Job Category: Nursing - Hospital JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides assistance with Orthopedic Care Clinic patients, in conjunction with the Supervisor of Orthopedic Care. The registered nurse (RN) is responsible for assisting patients in collaboration with the provider and other members of the health care team with all clinical services available at the clinic. Clinical responsibilities of the Medical Assistant to include patient intake, documenting medical history, vital signs, preparing and administering injections and vaccinations, EKG’s, performing CLIA waived lab testing, and perform additional medical services that fall within the scope of practice of the MA. Job duties include but are not limited to: Gathers pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples. Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Collects specimens utilizing proper technique for laboratory analysis. Performs point of care testing for all testing done in clinic. Provides patient care as directed by physician or advanced practice clinician and is able to make skilled judgements based on patient presentation and protocols in place. Documents assessments, interventions, patient/family interactions/responses, medications dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical record. Assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and minor surgical procedures in the clinic setting. Participates in the development of the plan of care with other team members and safely implements that plan. Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating provider advice/instructions. Schedules, coordinates and communicates referrals to specialist and services ordered by the provider. Assist in patient scheduling of surgical procedures and prior authorizations. Assist the Orthopedic Surgeon, General Surgeon and Advanced Practice Providers in procedures performed within the clinic. Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Assists other health care professionals in performing task in the workload and communicating with staff members, providers and patients. Ensures all patient information is accurate and in the correct locations of the patient chart for quality reporting and data extraction purposes. Coordinate and manage care of patients seen by provider including but not limited to following up and tracking testing, referrals. Stays informed of insurance requirements and guidelines for patient care. Performs prior authorizations and acts as patient advocate. Regularly monitoring patients as appropriate to promote wellness and health maintenance including preventative and chronic care. Schedules, coordinates and communicates referrals to specialist and services ordered by the provider. Assists in the preop education with patients. Assist in medication prior authorization. Assist the Orthopedic Surgeon, General Surgeon and Advanced Practice Providers in communicating post op information to patients. Lead by example, manage up and support change through out the department and the organization. Gives input into Huddle topics and monthly department meetings. Maintains records of both meetings that are available to staff. Communicating results and education to patients through phone or portal and document it within the EMR. Perform medication prior authorizations. Documents all patient/family interactions/responses, medications dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical record. Assist the care team in working the nursing tasks through the EMR.
