The Registered Nurse, RN, provides professional care to residents, and directs and supervises nursing care given by Health Care Aides/Personal Support Workers within an assigned unit with minimal direction. The RN is required to plan, direct and coordinate all activities necessary for the management of the unit. The RN shall work closely with the Director of Care and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. These duties and responsibilities shall be conducted in accordance with the Mission and Vision Statement, policies, procedures and work routines of the facility, while always respecting residents’ rights.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Provide leadership to those staff who are reporting up to them
· Provides nursing in accordance with administrative policies, physician’s orders, established standards, and recognized nursing practices
· dispense and administer medications
· assist in maintaining a physical and psycho-social environment which meets the needs of residents
· ensure appropriate response to all resident calls as required
· adhere to all policies and procedures pertaining to the operation of the facility in regard to: infection control; health and safety; personnel practices internal and external emergencies; residents’ rights; confidentiality;
· work in a safe manner by: promptly reporting accidents/illness; seeking out first aid when appropriate; cooperating in health care treatment; cooperating in all aspects of the facility’s modified work program; reporting all unsafe or unhealthy conditions;
· participate in staff meetings, committees, and in-service education designated by the Director of Care;
· address family concerns in a timely fashion
· Take on the Role of Fire Chief and handle emergency situations in the event that management is not on site and notify the CEO/Director of Care in emergency situations
· Assists with scheduling replacement staff

Qualifications and Skills
· RN with current and active registration with College of Nurses of Ontario;
· possess excellent interpersonal, creative problem solving, conflict resolution and leadership skills, plus experience in working with seniors;
