Over 135 MESD employees work in the Department of School Health Services. We are committed to ensuring the safety of students by providing the highest standard of nursing care in the school and community setting so that every student has the opportunity to achieve their educational potential. We are nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, outreach workers, screening and prevention specialists who accomplish this by providing and coordinating specialized health services that support the educational experience for students throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. We are committed to employee and community wellness, advocacy on behalf of students and their families, collaboration with community health systems and school based health centers, research and development to improve population health in schools, and using evidenced-based practice in the delivery of care. We support the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model that combines and builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach by responding to the call for greater alignment, integration, and collaboration between education and health to improve each child’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.
MESD is currently recruiting for a 0.5 FTE position at Helensview School, an accredited, student-centered program designed to support youth ages 12–21 who have been historically underserved by traditional school systems. Many of Helensview’s students face systemic barriers that impact school engagement, including chronic attendance challenges and behavioral disruptions. The school is committed to creating inclusive, trauma-informed learning environments that honor each student’s lived experience and support their academic and personal growth.
