POSITION DESCRIPTION
Surrey Place is seeking a Registered Nurse. The successful applicant will report to the Manager, Children & Youth Services. The Registered Nurse will practice as a member of the TRE-ADD (Treatment, Research, Education for Autism and Developmental Disabilities) Interdisciplinary team, providing health care to Surrey Place clients with developmental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder. Services can include direct assessments, implementation of treatments with clients, and building parent/mediator capacity for families to effectively support their child/youth. This position will also emphasize health promotion, health education and disease prevention, contributing to the excellence of health care for the child/youth. The Registered Nurse will be required to travel to the TRE-ADD classroom locations, and Surrey Place Satellite offices to provide service. We have five TRE-ADD locations across the Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga, Brampton, Etobicoke, and Scarborough.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing from a recognized university or equivalent education and experience, with willingness to pursue higher education, such as a master’s degree.
- Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in the General Class).
- 3 years of nursing practice experience in a community setting or a combination of community experience and public health nursing is preferred.
- Relevant hospital nursing is considered an asset.
- Specialized nursing knowledge required to independently conduct a comprehensive health history, physical assessments, and development of a nursing management plan.
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, and/or autism spectrum disorder, who may have a dual diagnosis, or other complex needs.
- Experience working on an interdisciplinary and/or multi-disciplinary team.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication (both written and oral), problem solving, organizational and time management skills.
- Experience with case management is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care, community-based services and systems.
- Experience working in psychopharmacology is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of paediatric developmental and medical issues.
- Ability to travel within the GTA.
- This position may require some evening and Saturday work.
- A satisfactory Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Fluency in French is considered an asset.
