The Role
Macquarie University Health is seeking a Registered Nurse with recent perioperative theatre experience to join our specialised Neurosurgery & Spinal team.
In this dynamic role, you will be instrumental in supporting complex neurosurgical and spinal procedures, working alongside highly skilled surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff. Your key responsibilities will include preparing the operating theatre for intricate spinal and cranial surgeries, managing highly specialised instruments and equipment, maintaining strict aseptic techniques, and delivering safe, patient-centred care during all phases of the perioperative journey.
You will play a critical role in anticipating the needs of the surgical team, responding rapidly to changes during procedures, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes in a high-stakes environment. About You
Reporting to Nursing Unit Manager (Theatres), the successful applicant will have sound clinical nursing skills, a strong patient focus, and enthusiasm for working in a team. As a member of our multidisciplinary perioperative team, you will be expected to maintain a positive attitude, embrace innovation, and adapt to new practices. Excellent communication skills and a genuine dedication to providing outstanding care in the perioperative setting are essential.

To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV and a 1–2-page cover letter:
- Recent perioperative theatre experience – with experience in key areas such as Neurosurgery & Spinal essential for this role.
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- Excellent organisational and time management skills and a proven ability to prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced environment and critical incidents.
- Flexible schedule.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and exercise independent professional judgement and critical thinking
- Well-developed computer skills including the use of electronic medical records systems, Microsoft Word, Excel and web-based research
Role-Specific Conditions
- Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for NSW (Please provide your WWCC number in your application)
- Registered Nurse/Enrolled Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- MQ Health Immunisation screening
- This position requires a Criminal History Check
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts
