The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person’s needs.

In this position, you’ll work collaboratively across Emergency Department (ED), Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), Access, and inpatient settings, ensuring every consumer receives timely, compassionate, and expert care. Your clinical insight will guide the triage process, helping to assess and direct individuals to the most appropriate treatment environment tailored to their unique needs.

Responsibilities
  • Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) including completion of a new graduate RN program and/ or experience working as a Registered Nurse
  • Demonstrated experience working with people presenting with an acute mental health problem
  • Demonstrated advanced reasoning skills with proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team within minimal direct clinical supervision
  • Proven effective high level written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to exercise independent professional judgement when solving problems
  • Working knowledge of the NSW Mental Health Act 2007
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with consumers and carers regarding mental healthcare
  • An understanding of the recovery philosophy and trauma informed care in Mental Health and the ability to implement these within clinical practice
  • Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel
