Description
As a Registered Nurse at FMC Carswell, you will provide critical nursing services to Adults in Custody (AIC) within a correctional medical environment. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for delivering direct patient care across various units, including inpatient, outpatient, specialty care, and mental health units. - Key Responsibilities Direct Patient Care: Perform routine clinical activities such as taking vital signs, recording patient history, and assisting clinicians during exams and minor surgical procedures. - Clinical Procedures: Perform venipuncture, start and complete intravenous (IV) lines, and draw/process blood for analysis. - Emergency Response: Recognize life-threatening emergencies, initiate immediate care, and assist in urgent care areas, including triaging patients. - Patient Assessment: Develop nursing assessments, implement care plans, and monitor patients for high-risk symptoms (e.g., suicidal or homicidal risk). - Medication Management: Administer prescribed medications and vaccinations, ensuring accurate documentation in the Bureau Electronic Medical Records (BEMR) system. - Administrative Duties: Manage daily sick call logs, track appointments, and handle medical record documentation in a timely and legible manner. - Safety & Security: Maintain accountability of all sharps (needles/scalpels) and adhere strictly to correctional security regulations for the safety of staff and patients. \n \n $45 - $45 an hour - Qualifications & Requirements Education: Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing program is required. - Licensure: Must possess and maintain a current, valid Registered Nurse license from the State of Texas. - Experience: At least six months of professional nursing experience is preferred. - Certification: Must be Basic Life Saver (BLS) certified through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. - Health Standards: Must provide evidence of recent testing for tuberculosis and other communicable diseases. - Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with patients of diverse ethnic, cultural, and age backgrounds. \n Work Environment & Schedule - Location: FMC Carswell, Fort Worth, TX (Inpatient, Outpatient, and Mental Health Units). - Shifts: Staffing includes day and night shifts - 5:30AM – 6:00 PM; 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; 1:00PM – 9:30 PM; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM - Availability: Coverage may include weekends and federally recognized holidays. - Attire: Professional clothing is required; however, khaki or green clothing is strictly prohibited as it matches the attire worn by the inmate population. - Setting Nature: Work is performed in a secure correctional facility where delays may occur due to security matters or institutional needs. - Assignment: 120 day (4 months) commitment
