QUALIFICATIONS
· Holds current registration in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
· Experience in working at Long Term Care Facilities or Retirement Homes preferred
· Current BCLS certification required at time of hire
· Minimum of 3 - 5 years of clinical experience
· Strong physical assessment skills
· Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills
· Proven success in developing relationships with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
· Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
· Satisfactory employment and attendance record required

· Maintain accountability for the nursing and personal care of residents within the scope of training and licensure.
· Assume responsibility for notifying family / responsible party of any significant change in a resident’s condition.
· Maintains resident records and required documentation in accordance with policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
· Administers medications as prescribed in accordance with pharmacy policies & procedures and observes changes in condition and reports them to the Director of Wellness.
· Monitors the safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, and ensures narcotic count is correct.
· Reports incidents / near misses, illness, or problems with residents to the Director of Wellness.
· Attends in-services & team members meetings and completes ongoing education in accordance with professional standards for development.
· Promotes and maintains positive communication and relationships among team members.
Physical Requirements
· Stretching/reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift as an essential job function.
· Walking, with possibility of some upstairs walking, as a major job function.
· Standing, for lengths of time, up to four hours maximum. (1-2 hours usual) as a major job function.
· Must be able to move, lift or push equipment and supplies of various sizes and weights.
· Must have visual and hearing acuity to recognize the need of assistance required by residents or staff.
