OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for patient care and the skills necessary to provide high-quality medical services. In particular, we are looking for an RPN experienced in providing care to a quadriplegic client. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with daily living activities, managing medical care specific to spinal cord injuries, and ensuring the client receives personalized, empathetic support to maintain their quality of life.
SKILLS
- Extensive experience in caring for quadriplegic patients, with a strong focus on spinal cord injury management and rehabilitation.
- Proficient in catheterization procedures and maintaining urinary catheter care.
- Skilled in wound care, including pressure sore prevention, dressing changes, and infection control.
- Knowledge of effective pain management techniques and familiarity with medications for clients with spinal cord injuries.
- Ability to work in a home care setting, providing long-term care and adapting to the unique needs of a quadriplegic patient.
- Expertise in patient transfers, positioning, and mobility assistance, ensuring the safety and comfort of the client.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster a supportive relationship with the client and their family members.

Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, home care environments, and specialized care for quadriplegic clients, focusing on mobility assistance and personal care needs.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, including medications related to quadriplegia management such as muscle relaxants and pain management.
- Monitor patients’ conditions, specifically observing for any signs of complications in quadriplegic clients, such as pressure sores, respiratory issues, or autonomic dysreflexia, and report changes to the healthcare team.
- Assist in medical procedures, including phlebotomy, pain management, catheterization, and bowel/bladder management, which are often necessary for quadriplegic patients.
- Maintain accurate medical records using electronic health record systems like Cerner, ensuring documentation includes any updates on the quadriplegic client’s condition and care adjustments.
