Description
The Registered Practical Nurse works as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, using a client centered approach. The role encompasses counseling, health teaching and patient advocacy provided in a non-judgmental manner. The role includes all aspects of care for the urology and gynecology patient. As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Practical Nurse provides patient care within the competencies of a Registered Practical Nurse 1. Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse 2. Completion of a post-diploma nursing courses: Pelvic Assessment of the Adult Woman, Physical Assessment and Wound Care 3. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Course in CPR or equivalent. 4. Current Certification in Medication Administration, Urinary Bladder Catheterization and Intravenous Access 5. Demonstrated knowledge skills and ability of surgical instruments and equipment. 6. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in dealing with issues of diversity (culture, race, class) 7. Demonstrated experience and comfort in dealings with issues of sexuality, contraception, STIs and early pregnancy 8. Current certificate in Vascular Access and recent expertise (2 years) in venipuncture skills. 9. Recent within (2 years) relevant experience working in a surgical/procedural area . 10. Demonstrate ability to work in a fast paced, high turnover environment. 11. Demonstrate interpersonal communication and teamwork skills 12. Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making in assessment and problem identification. 13. Evidence of commitment of professional practice and ongoing education. 14. Demonstrated knowledge of patient care requirements and Peri-Operative standards in the assessment and management of adult surgical procedures. 15. Experience in Urodynamic testing of lower urinary tract. 16. Experience of fluoroscopic procedure and equipment. 17. Endoscopy experience
