QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current license with the Ontario College of Nurses in good standing
  • Demonstrated experience with medication administration
  • Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors.
  • Knowledge of best nursing practices and nursing diagnosis.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures as required by the College of Nurses of Ontario

Physical Demands:

  • Standing for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to assist with medication administration and personal care as needed
  • Walking and moving up/down staircases.
  • Typing and/or use of a computer keyboard proficiently. Pulling/pushing/lifting to open and/or relocate binders, medication carts, etc. up to 50lbs.
  • Speaking/communicating effectively with others
  • Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents in the provision of resident care where required.
  • Dexterity required to open pouches/blister packs, insert test strips into glucometers, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing professional nursing care to all residents and supervise care given in the nursing unit.
  • Assessing all resident needs and planning, implementing and ensuring that their plans of care are accurate and up to date
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary care team to ensure the highest level of quality care and services are provided to the residents.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Providing directions and supervision to care aides on shift
  • Assessing residents’ conditions by recognizing signs and symptoms and where necessary initiate remedial health measures.
  • Contacting resident’s attending physician when there is a change in resident’s physical or mental condition, taking orders as prescribed.
  • Responsible to ensure safekeeping of drugs and narcotic keys.
  • Complying with the medication administration program.
  • Dealing courteously with staff, residents, residents’ families and visitors.
  • Ensuring medical records are well maintained.
  • Ensuring all personal health information is maintained as per PHIPA.
  • Ensuring daily/weekly and monthly duties are completed.
  • Ensuring nursing documentation is complete as per College of Nurses’ Nursing Documentation guidelines.
  • Assisting with arranging transportation for residents.
  • Answering call bells and assist where necessary.
  • Ordering medications from pharmacy as per Doctor’s orders.
  • Receiving medications and ensures safe storage of medications.
  • Adhering to all established policies and procedures.
  • Completing and follows up on incident reports where necessary.
  • Supervising resident’s personal hygiene and bathing as per schedule, or assisting when necessary.
  • Assisting residents with ambulation when necessary.
  • Providing emergency medical care.
  • Assisting residents and/or families in obtaining the services of a physician when necessary.
  • Accessesing, facilitates and orientates community agencies and/or resources.
  • Facilitating contact with other Health Care facilities and educational facilities.
  • Collaborating with volunteers and staff in the development and implementation of activity programs and outside services.
  • Aware of role and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Ability to travel

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Risk Management and General Safety

  • Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures including extinguishers (as applicable), SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents immediately.
  • Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately.
  • Complies with all infection control techniques, placement of biohazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies.
  • Participates in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.
