POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care under the direction of medical practitioners, registered nurses or other health team members.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must hold a current certificate of competence to practice as a R.P.N. in Ontario.
  • Qualified to practice within current CNO RPN Scope of Practice guidelines.
  • Must have Medication Administration Certificate from a recognized College (or in progress).
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in psychiatric nursing is required.
  • Must demonstrate successful completion of Physical Assessment Course.
  • Post Diploma Psychiatric Program preferred.
  • Demonstrates a sound knowledge of the principles of psychiatric nursing.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention model.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work

well with patients, families, all levels of staff.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Ability to problem solve and make effective decisions during highly stressful and potential

emergency situations.

  • Satisfactory work performance and attendance record required.
  • The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to professional development as

well as to the Mission and Vision of the Hospital. Demonstrates proficiency in written and
verbal communications skills in relation to working with patients across the care continuum.
