At Richmond Terrace, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care and creating a warm, supportive environment for our residents. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Part Time Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our team!

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Registered Practical Nurse, under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services (DOCS) or a Registered Nurse (RN), is responsible for the care of assigned residents and the provision of leadership/job guidance to the Personal Support Workers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Ontario Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Medication Administration Certificate and a Asepsis Certificate.
  • Experience in a long-term care setting and geriatrics.
  • Skills and leadership abilities in supervising other nursing personnel is a must.
  • Must be able to communicate in English, including written documentation.
  • A current CPR certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate is an asset.
  • Computer skills are an asset.
  • Seeks out opportunities to maintain competency and continued learning in compliance with Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Standards of Practice.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lifting alone, maximum 50 lbs (5-25 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
  • Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs (100-150 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
  • Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as cart, trolleys, with contents that weight a maximum 100 lbs (20-50 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
  • Walking, with possibly some upstairs walking, to a maximum of 3 hours (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
  • Bending/stooping on a regular frequency throughout the shift as a non-essential job function.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses the needs of individual residents and organizes for the provision of resident care under the direction of the registered nurse. Participates in the formulation of the Resident Care Plan. Participates in the interdisciplinary care conference.
  • Assists in planning assignments for self, Personal Support Workers and delegates accordingly to provide for effective resident care; taking into account the physical, spiritual, psychosocial and restorative needs of the resident.
  • Supervises the nursing care given by Personal Support Workers under his/her direction, in accordance with the Resident Care Plan.
  • Promotes a positive team spirit within the department and home.
  • Provides direct resident care, in accordance with current and approved standards of care, policies and procedures. Initiates remedial health measures under the guidance of the DOCS or the RN.
  • Maintains effective communication and good interpersonal relations with medical and allied staff, residents, families and other departments.
  • Maintains accurate records of nursing observations and procedures performed according to approved standards of care, policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the implementation and enforcement of all facility and departmental policies including CQI responsibilities.
  • Assists in maintaining a neat, clean and safe environment for residents and personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
