Description:

ABOUT US

SOAR Community Services, Brantford has been an established part of the community for more than 55 years, and is accredited for our excellence in serving children, youth, adults and families within the communities we serve.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides direct patient care within residential Withdrawal Management and Treatment Services to the full scope of practice for an RPN. Client needs are met by providing screening, intake assessment, withdrawal symptom monitoring using evidence-based protocols, administration of medication, provision of physical care, and contribution to development of a collaborative and comprehensive clinical discharge plan.
As an RPN working in this setting you enjoy collaboration across an interdisciplinary team, more focused care on a smaller number of clients than in most healthcare settings, more autonomy over your work, and meaningful contribution to an underserved area of healthcare. You make a difference!
Here is what our nursing team is saying about their role at WMTS:
“I feel like I am actually making a difference in people’s lives, seeing them grow and change while they are at St. Leonard’s Community Services. At the hospital it is running from room to room without opportunity to really talk with those you are caring for. It is a good feeling at the end of my shift to know I did make a difference.”
“Being a nurse in Addictions and Mental Health at SOAR Community Services is where client-centric care meets professional autonomy. I feel like I have a nursing job without traditional bedside duties! I have said goodbye to overnights; our roles prioritize work life balance and the opportunity to make a lasting impact for clients and the community. This is the role that will elevate your nursing career where every day you engage and empower.”
“As a nurse in Addictions and Mental Health, I have played a pivotal role in supporting and guiding individuals towards recovery and fostering resilience. This specialized area has enabled me to build one on one therapeutic relationships, work with autonomy, and witness positive transformations. This niche nursing role is the perfect intersection of compassion and clinical skills that has empowered me to make impactful differences for individuals and the community.”

The RPN:

  • Adheres to CNO Standards of Practice and demonstrates practice competencies

  • Collects specimens such as blood, urine and blood glucose
  • Assists with medication reconciliation and EMR chart maintenance
  • Maintains a safe and clean facility

Hours of work: No scheduled shifts, on call basis
