POSITION SUMMARY

Women and Children RPN’s are an integral part of the Maternal Child team providing family centered care to postpartum women following both vaginal and caesarean births and their newborns. Women and Children’s RPN’s work on a team with physicians, midwives and other professionals. We offer a robust orientation program with a mentor assignment tailored to individual experience levels.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgement necessary for postpartum and newborn patients,
  • Practices within the principles of patient and family centred care,
  • Maintains the health record/clinical documentation in accordance with College of Nurses Standards,
  • Practicing in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policy and procedures, professional regulatory standards and evidence based practices within the nursing profession,
  • Maintaining professional competence by completing regular professional development including annual training and education as indicated,
  • Participates in unit/departmental and hospital quality improvement initiatives,
  • Adheres to a safe and healthy workplace and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adheres to health and safety related policy and procedures,
  • Adapts and adheres to the values of QHC while promoting and advocating for an enhanced patient experience, and
  • Other duties as assigned.
