Accountable to the Clinical Manager, the Sr. Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible to work with the interdisciplinary team to support and promote quality care delivery throughout the inpatient programs at the Hamilton General Hospital and the Regional Rehab Centre. This position will be focused on supporting the respiratory needs of patients who will be discharged to the community and or repatriated to their home hospital from both Regional Rehabilitation and from the acute units of the Hamilton General Hospital. The Sr. Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for maintaining quality assurance for all aspects of related clinical operations, maintaining files and providing statistical reports utilizing these testing systems, provide patient education regarding their disease process and proper administration of medication, provide training/teaching of new staff and students and other duties as required/assigned. The Senior Registered Respiratory Therapist (Sr. RT) will provide respiratory care and support to patients with respiratory, spinal cord and acquired brain injury disorders, as well as those with chronic conditions in a complex care environment. This position also provides support to patients in the hospital who will be discharged from HHS with complex respiratory care needs. The Sr. RRT will support the care and management of patients requiring invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Other responsibilities include advanced secretion clearance and lung volume augmentation techniques, oxygen therapy (including liquid oxygen), aerosol therapy, spirometry and ABGS. This position will assist patients with their pre/post tracheotomy care needs, liaising with the respirologist, neurologist and other medical specialists in the inpatient and outpatient area clinics. The Sr. RRT will provide respiratory therapy assessments, discharge and care plans. Prepare and provide related education for patients, family members, caregivers and allied health professionals. The Sr. RRT will be required to attend patient and program meetings as well as communicate with appropriate home care vendors/clients. As a Sr. RRT, this individual will work autonomously, make decisions and apply judgement in their day-to-day work. This individual is solely accountable for the completion of the workload associated with the practice of Respiratory Therapy in the area/section/ unit. The incumbent will ensure that the proper techniques and work output meet established professional standards. 1. Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. 2. Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists in Ontario (CRTO) with no terms, conditions or limitations preventing fulfillment of above job description. 3. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) exam 4. Two (2)years of experience, within the past five (5) years, in Adult Respiratory Care. 5. Two (2)years of experience, within the past five (5) years, in respiratory rehabilitation, long term invasive and noninvasive ventillation, oxygen therapy and the application/forms process with the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) through the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. 6. Two (2)years of experience, within the past five (5) years, in the allocation/process of securing mechanical ventilators through Ontario's Ventilator Equipment Pool (VEP) 7. Two (2)years of experience, within the past five (5) years, in advanced airway secretion/clearance Lung Volume Augmentation techniques and difficult airway management 8. Smoking Cessation education/certification and COPD Educator certification 9. Demonstrated excellent skills in communication, organization, interaction with multiple health care team members and an understanding of other programs within Hamilton Health Sciences. 10. Demonstrated commitment to family centered care.
