SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Social Worker is a member of the agency’s multidisciplinary team who is responsible for delivering comprehensive culturally based social work services to the children and families of Neqotkuk. The Social Worker will be proficient with duties in the area of Intake, Assessments, Prevention, Child Protection, Children in Care, and Foster Parent services. The Social Worker will work in collaboration with individuals and families to align them with the services and resources they need to overcome their challenges.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Social Work from accredited post-secondary institution
  • Current registration and in good standing with the Association of New Brunswick Social Workers
  • Broad knowledge of Wolastoqey culture, traditions, values, and history and experience working with First Nations
  • Experience in crisis intervention, investigation and assessment of high risk situations
  • Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to work effectively in a high volume and time sensitive environment
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills in a changing environment
  • Proficient computer skills, experience with case management systems, and a willingness to learn other digital platforms
  • Valid New Brunswick Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and insurance coverage
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Social Development record Check are required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform the work of a social worker by conducting intake assessments, case planning, case management, and investigations of abuse or neglect and take authorized protective action when necessary
  • Interview, mediate and collaborate with clients, and their families to assess their situation and challenges to determine the types of services required
  • Provide referrals for cultural, mental wellness and therapeutic services to assist clients in developing skills to deal with and resolve their social and personal problems
  • Identify internal and external services for clients including referral to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment etc.
  • Advocate for clients and families in the community, identify solutions to problems directly affecting client groups, and collaborate with community partners and resources
  • Prepare and maintain client files and clinical records on the case management system
  • Ensure compliance with operational guidelines, policies, procedures, and confidentiality
  • After Hours Emergency Services as required
  • Additional duties as required by management
