We have a vacancy for a band 5 registered nurse on Rendcomb Ward Cheltenham General Hospital.
Rendcomb Ward is a 22 bedded mixed Adult Ward caring for Oncology and Haematology patients, this comprises of an 8 bedded unit in which we treat patients with high dose chemotherapy followed by a stem cell transplant. Experience in this field is not essential but we would like to hear from you if you would like to broaden your knowledge & enhance your career in a rapidly changing forward thinking speciality.
We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate nurses with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to help us to deliver outstanding care to our patients.

You will be required to work a variety of shifts

  • Demonstrate ability to assess patient condition, develop and implement appropriate care, within the multidisciplinary team.
  • To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.
  • Ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately.
  • To deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.
  • To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines
  • To deliver and receive information which may cause emotional distress to all parties.
  • Participate in mentorship and educational programmes for students and other members of the team.
  • To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct
  • Regularly responsible for the supervision and mentorship for unqualified, qualified staff and students.
  • To input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer-based systems
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records.

Our Oncology department has a dedicated Practice Development Team that provides support and training for nursing staff; you will receive a full induction prior to commencing your new exciting post and on-going support with your career development.

Our multidisciplinary team work very closely together to ensure good communication for both our patients and staff alike.

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Appropriate experience within a defined Clinical area.
  • Enhanced IT skills
  • Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills. e.g. Administration of intravenous injections, cannulation, phlebotomy, CVC skills.
  • Act as a resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge
  • Ensure personal and professional development is progressed through appraisal
  • Demonstrate understanding of research-based practice, and participate as required in audit.
  • To hold or be working towards a specialised course relevant to the Oncology / Haematology speciality or proven level of expertise within the setting.
